Countdown to Halloween!

Here is my Halloween advent calendar! I used a ton of Halloween scrap paper and my circle cutter. I then glued them to two 12 X 12 scrapbook pages and strung them together. Each day we will open the circles and have a fun fall craft, recipe, or adventure to do!

Hutch Shelves #30--DONE

The bottom cabinet of my hutch pretty much had become a place to toss things that I didn't have space for! Just a big mess. After reading this post at The Idea Room I decided I needed to clean it out and make it more functionable! I even had bought the same little drawer containers from Target (mine are black) and even though I had less space I was determined to make it usable!

Quick Fix #4 DONE

So I bought two of these frames at Target on clearance. I thought they were super cute and wanted to put them on either side of my hutch. The only problem is that they would only hang one way:

Its bothered me ever since I hung them up that they were facing the same way. I've wanted to change it every time I looked at them. I decided to just do it:

Awwwww so much better! I couldn't get good pictures though because of my dining room light fixture. It was hanging in my way but you get the idea :)

Cork Board LOVE

I found this four pack of 12X12 cork board at Rite-Aid when I was looking through the school supplies and I just HAD to have it:

I've been really unhappy with the space on the wall above my scrapbook table ever since I re-organized the area. So I decided to use the cork board to hang unused/duplicate pictures.

So I went through my scrapbook stash to find some inspiration. I decided to go very simple and just spelled out the word LOVE down one side. Then I used coordinating border stickers down the other side:

Really plain, simple, and easy but I LOVE the way it looks now:

P.S. I know the pictures are silly and put on funky but that is how I like it!

Interview Your Toddler!

I don't know why it never occurred to me to do this before now! I had to interview Jaden for his "special day" at Pre-K and his responses surprised me. They also made me feel proud and laugh! I highly recommend interviewing your child! I think I will do this twice a year and put it in his scrapbook as the first page. Here are some questions to give you some ideas (plus my son's hilarious answers lol)!

Favorite thing to do with your feet (smell them)
Favorite thing to do in the kitchen (rocking around)
Favorite thing to do with your parents (sit on Dad's lap)

Little Containers, Big Difference!

Ok so I have no before pictures but I promise these little containers have made a big improvement to my space! I LOVE containers. Any kind! Most of the time they are inexpensive and there are so many ways to use them! Here are some of the containers I have used to organize my bathroom better! This is all in an attempt to get #46 crossed off my 101 in 1001 list!

For cotton balls and Q-tips:

I found this for like $2 at Wal-Mart, not sure what it is supposed to be used for but I love it on top of the toilet to hold extra TP and Jaden's wipes in the bathroom:

My makeup drawer re-do, these white containers are two for a dollar and the perfect size to throw all my makeup and tools into. I also used one of my makeup bags (the animal print one) to hold all of my rubber bands/headbands/bobby pins:

For Jaden's bath toys, these were $1 each and hold many small bath toys. Also you can't see in the picture but they are not solid, they have circle holes. So after bath I can actually use the container to scoop up the toys and the water drains out. I also found a little mesh bag that had a Burts Bee gift set. I used it to put his washcloths in:

I bought one more container that I wasn't able to use in the bathroom as planned! It is a plastic hanging file folder thingy! I wanted to install it on the inside of the bathroom cabinet but the cabinet door is not wide enough. So now I get to find another use for that!

I added a new challenge to my blog on the side. I was inspired by a parenting board that I frequent to start a 101 in 1001 challenge! I have listed 101 tasks to complete in 1001 days! I am very excited to get these things DONE! My start date was yesterday, Sunday August 15th, and my end day will be May 12th, 2013!

My first project was to clean out my makeup drawer! After making my top 100 list it made me realize that I hang on to WAY too much junk! So it was nice to combine these two projects. Now my drawer is cleaned and organized (I even used one of my make up bags YAY) and I got rid of a ton of unused makeup. Even though I still own WAY more then just 10 items of makeup I did purge 35 items! Feels good!

So...1 down (item #35)...100 to go!

Summer Fun Week 10

We had another busy week and I tried to fit in some activities! Most of these were NOT from our Summer Fun Container but just things I tried to fit in to other things I needed to do or get done!

Name in Magazines: I had a stack of magazines/junk mail to go through so I sat Jaden on my lap and asked him to point out the letters of his name when he saw them.

Cook Breakfast: Jaden wanted to help so I let him stir the butter and crack the eggs. He had so much fun "cooking" his breakfast!

That is IT, 10 things....So I started with my Make-Up Bags...I wrote 1 down on my list but look how many I found:

EIGHT! Why do I have 8 make up bags??? So I decided to get rid of all but 1 of them...however..which one? They are all so cute!! But because its ridiculous to keep all of them I was able to semi-easily pick three to donate. I had a harder time with the other 5. So I decided to keep 1 for my bathroom/purse and 1 will go into my suitcase for when I travel. The other 3...well I can't decide. I don't need them but I don't want to just get rid of them :)

My brilliant plan is to start a December box. I am going to throw these 3 bags (and anything else that I can't decide on) into my December box and if I haven't used them by December..they are out of here!!!!

Off to find unique ways to use these bags so I can keep them!

I came across a news article yesterday about a lady who decided to get rid of all of her possessions except for 100 items. I stumbled upon this blog of the man who started this challenge. I find the concept really interesting!

Summer Fun Week 9

Playdate with cousins-I was off on Monday and so was my Aunt so she brought my cousins over and we had a whole day of games, fun, and food!

Pictionary-This is such a hilarious game to play with a preschooler! I love to see him guess the simple pictures I am drawing and then try to guess what each of his "blobs" are :)

Sponge Painting-Just sponges and paint-so simple!

Yearly Photo Wall

My mom actually did this with our school photos when I lived at home. She proudly displayed my sisters and I yearly photos in the hallway. I secretly called it the wall of shame as I hated looking at all of my awkward grade school to High School pictures. But now I love the idea of displaying every year of my sons life. I love to see how much he has grown and changed. I also love to actually use them instead of storing them away each year to display the new photo!

Summer Fun Week 8

This week was kind of a bust! A lot of things didn't quite work out and one day we were way to busy for a project!

I tried to make an ice necklace out of the following (I am going to try this again next week because I am determined to make this work!!):

Bowling (except I didn't call ahead and there were no open lanes so we ended up playing these toy machines and going home):

Playdate with friends at the park, a nice impromptu day at the park!

Zoo (to "meet" the new baby tigers and they are SO cute):

Summer Fun Week 7

We had a busy week last week so we did very easy activities from our Summer Fun Container..and I am a bad blogger because I didn't take any pictures! But here is what we did last week:

Star Trick: We turned broken toothpicks into a star! Not from our summer fun container lol. I saw this at How Does She and couldn't resist seeing if this works (and it does, my son thought it was hilarious)!

Blueberry ice cubes-We dropped one or two blueberries into an ice cube tray, added water, and froze. My son loves using the blueberry ice cubes in his water and eating the frozen blueberry when it melts!

Board Games at the Park-This was an activity that was already set up at the park and Jaden had so much fun playing board games with the other kids. Then we played in the park and had lunch!

Sprinkler-Always fun and easy activity!

Play-Doh-Another fun and easy thing to do. Jaden will play with Play-Doh for hours :)

Scrap Table-Sorta Organized

Since I had SO much fun doing my 10 in 10 with The Shabby Chic Cottage I decided to try Clean Mama's Summer Declutter Workshop at Crazy Domestic!

I printed out the wonderful free printable and picked four spots in my house! I am two weeks behind though but I choose to work on the hardest one first. My scrapbook space is the most cluttered space in my house! I am so embarressed to even share these pictures but here is the before:

Eeeeek that is so terrible :( I emptied out the entire space:

Then I sorted, tossed, put aside for selling on CL, AND grouped:

Its still not perfect because I don't have the funds to replace my scrapbooks that have broken bindings (laying across the top). I also would like to get a nice shelf that I can display my finished scrapbooks on....someday (which means someday I will have a finished scrapbook AND a nice shelf lol)! Also I had two floating shelfs to hang above my table to display pictures but I couldn't get them hung up secure enough so I just hung the photos on the wall. Eventually I also want to get some letters or vinyl to spell out CREATE!

Summer Fun Grab and Go Bag

I had seen and loved the idea of having a little tote stocked and ready to go at all times. So I picked up this simple tote at the Dollar Store. Its just perfect for a grab and go bag for just a dollar!!!

I wanted to decorate it in some way and was thinking I would try to put some iron on patches or something.....sooooo it sat in my closet for several weeks because I never think to buy patches lol.

So today when I was painting I thought I would try painting on it instead (since my 10 in 10 deadline is coming up quick lol). I was going to use stencils to paint "Summer Fun" but then I couldn't find my stencils. So I dug through my scrap stash and decided on this:

I let it dry for 24 hours before I peeled the stickers:

I might add something more to it but for now my bag is stocked with travel wipes, hand sanitizer, mini suntan lotion, a towel, bathing suit for my son, and some small outdoor toys. I am all set for my play dates to the beach, park, whatever!

Summer Candle Display

I have this set of candle holders from Party Lite (that I've had forever) that are kind of like a three in one. You can use them as a vases, taper candle holder, or tealight holder. What I absolutely LOVE about them is that you can fill the inside (vase portion) with anything and put the tealight holders on top. I like to put things inside that go with the holiday (like Easter grass in April or fake spiders for Halloween lol). I've decided for the summer to use sand and shells. Sand is actually trickier to use then I thought! I like how it turned out but I may tweak it a bit, maybe figure out how to add some color!

Not only do I have a cute new display in my bathroom but I get to cross #4 off of my 10 in 10 List...YAY

4th of July Gift Bag

One of my BFF's has an awesome 4th of July party each year! I love to bring my hostess with the mostest a little gift of wine. This year I decided to make a gift bag instead of buying one. This project didn't really turn out the way I saw it in my head but o'well, its another thing to cross off my 10 in 10 list!
Started with one large blue bag and one large white bag. I ripped the blue bag in half:

My orginal idea was just punch stars in the blue bag, glue red paper behind where I punched, and glue the bags together. But it was WAY too plain!

So I found these super cute printable on Living Locurto's blog and added some stickles!

Then I added some firework stickles on the bottom :)

My husband likes a good beer, so I went to a really cool beer store and had the beer connoisseur put together a six pack of beers that I thought my husband would enjoy:

Then I asked my son (age 4) what he loves about Daddy. I made little notes using what he said and mod podged them onto the back of the bottles:

Easy "Cars" Wall Decor

I wanted to use these paint can lids (leftovers from http://inspiredcrafter.blogspot.com/2010/05/paint-can-action-figure-organization.html):

I used two coats of black paint that I had laying around from a trim project (that I never finished lol). In hindsight, I should have used primer too but o'well:

Then I modge podged these foam "Cars" wall decor stickers (that I used to decorate my son's "Cars" themed room but he had picked them all off)...Anyhow I had them laying around and thought this would be an easy decoration I could use on his wall. It turned out pretty cute...plus its high enough on the wall that he CAN'T pick them off :)

Organized Scrap-Inspiration Notebook

I have been scrapbooking for over 11 years now and I've built up quite the collection of....well...everything scrapbook related! One thing that I've noticed that is taking up WAY too much space is my scrapbook magazines! I look at them when I have scrappers block and need some inspiration. But I have way too many!

So I decided to look through e.v.e.r.y one of my lovely magazines and rip out the pages that inspire me! I am then organizing them into this notebook that will take up WAY less space! I made the "Inspiration" title on scrapblog and modge podged it to the front of a plain black three ring binder!
(Sorry for the glare, glue wasn't all the way dry!)

Summer Fun Container

I have seen alot of really neat Summer bucket lists of fun activities to do all summer. I really wanted to make one too and I realize I am a little behind on this project! BUT my son isn't even in school yet AND here in the PNW its not really even summer yet, well weather wise! Anyhow I finally finished my summer fun container!

I put our fun "to dos" into three categories that are based on how much time each activity will take! Anything that can be done in a short amount of time is printed on white paper, activities that requires the whole day are printed on blue paper, and activities that require preparation are on yellow paper. I am very excited to start doing these activities with my son!

I have been holding onto this canister for a long time waiting to use it for something!

So I cleaned it up and modge podged some cute scrapbook paper to it. Then I added stickers, ink, and stickles to decorate it!

The back is not covered yet but I plan on covering with some pictures from doing the activities! So I will share that part at the end of summer when we have done all of our fun activities!

Bottle Cap Magnets

I saw this craft on Martha Stewart's website (http://www.marthastewart.com/article/bottle-cap-magnets-and-thumbtacks) I LOVE finding a craft where I have all (or most) of the "ingredients" already at hand! I made a set of three bottle cap magnets for my friend using some images of her favorite icon, James Dean:

I also made a set in my sons name! We are working on spelling and I love to put his name on everything so that he will continue to work on spelling his name!

Altered 6X6 Scrapbook

I have decided to make my friend a scrapbook of her wedding (from September) for her birthday this month. I found a nice green color 6X6 scrapbook but wanted to add something to the front. I got these frames at walmart a few years ago and decided to figure out how to put them together!

I pulled the back off the frame, modge podged some scrapbook paper on the frame, and modge podged the picture and frame to the front of the scrapbook!

Paint Can Action Figure Organization

I was searching online for ideas for organizing boys toys and I found an article about different tubs and buckets for storage. I loved the idea of using empty paint cans to store little action figures. I got three empty/clean cans at home depot. I decided to try chalkboard paint for the first time too!

So I taped off little squares:

And the final product! They turned out really cute and best of all Jaden loves to dump them and fill them up! They hold a ton of little guys too!

Glue, Goldfish, and Stickers!

We made a picture of the aquarium and Jaden put goldfish and stickers of seahorses (because that is what he sees when he goes to the aquarium!) I tried to get him to draw his family at the top but he wanted me to do it so I showed him how to draw stick people!

Here are the stick figures up close. Per Jaden, there is Mommy wearing a bracelet, Daddy with a hat, cousin R holding a blanket & crying, himself eating a PB&J sandwich, cousin C eating just peanut butter, and our dog!

What to do with this year supply of pretzels courtesy of Costco and my in-laws:

Well cover them in chocolate and eat them up! They aren't pretty but they were delicious! I have never made these before but it was soooo easy!

This BARELY made a dent in that giant bag so we will have to do this again :)

Birthday Cards

At the beginning of each month I go through my calendar and make a list of all the birthdays. I note which I need to send a card, email a card, send a gift, or attend a party. Then I set aside some blank cards to decorate and send out. Whenever I need a free moment or have no craft for Jaden to do, I pull out the blank cards for him to color. Then as the birthday comes closer we decorate with birthday stickers from my scrapbook stash! Then I address and send out!

Leprechaun Hat

Happy St. Patty's Day! I was kind of stumped on a St. Patty's day craft that would be easy enough for my toddler and NOT a paper craft. I finally decided we could make a leprechaun hat. We used an empty (and cleaned) plastic fruit cup, some green paint, and ribbon/clover to decorate!
The supplies (although I decided to use ribbon instead of the black pipe cleaner) excuse my son, who thinks he needs to be in every picture I take lol:

I had a six hour crop this last Saturday. Just me, five of my fave girlfriends, lots of chit-chat, coffee, and scrapping! I completed FOUR two page (12X12) layouts, a personal best! At the crop I entered this page into the layout contest and won:

Not really a craft I know but thought I'd share anyways! My mom sent my son this super cute silicone baking pan with little bug shapes and we decided to make jello in it!

Purple jello, my son loved watching it turn color!

And HOW can you possibly fail at making jello??? Well it wouldn't pop out into the bug shapes! So we ended up with a pretty funny pile of oddly shaped purple jello blobs! Still good though :)

Scrabble Necklace-St. Patty's Day

Every Christmas on a parenting board I visit there is a craft that everyone decides to make. This last Christmas it was scrabble tile necklaces. I thought they were super cute but I didn't want to spend the money on buying a kit to make them. So I bought a few similar things at my craft store and made a few for my neices. They turned out really cute and since I have a bunch of left over supplies I thought I'd make myself a tile necklace for St. Patty's Day to make myself pinch proof!

I modge podged some cute St. Patty's Day paper onto my scrabble tile, added a little shamrock sticker, stickled some yellow around the sticker, and then covered with Glossy Accents! Now I just need to get the necklace to attach it too!

Its hard to get a good picture of these tiles but it turned really cute!

Scrapbook Page: Silly Boys!

I was inspired to make this page from a sketch I saw online last night! The thing I LOVE about sketches is that it gives you the idea and then you run with it. There can be several people scrapbooking off the same sketch but the pages would look completely different! I made a page with my son and nephew being silly boys!

Altered Clipboard

I have no idea where I got the inspiration for this but I've wanted to alter a clipboard for a long time. I bought a plain clipboard at the dollar store ages ago and its been collecting dust on my scrapbook table ever since. I finally found a use for it! Our new daily chore chart:

I just inked the top and modge podged some scrapbook paper on the bottom. The pink elastic with pink flower was off a gift I had received and it wrapped around the clipboard perfectly! I made a chore chart on Microsoft and voila: a cute way to keep track of our chores!
